Paella Made Simple

If you’ve ever thought making your own homemade paella was a bit intimidating, this is the perfect recipe for dipping your toes into the art of paella. It’s unbelievably simple yet just as satisfying. Also, while traditionally prepared in a special pan, or paellera, it’s not necessary to make a great paella. You just need a thin pan that is both shallow and wide, that heats quickly and doesn’t retain too much heat — you want an even cook, after all.

Paella is a traditional Spanish dish that is enjoyed throughout the year, right alongside a Tortilla Española. Commonly made in large quantities, this dish is meant to be enjoyed surrounded by friends and family. So call up your loved ones and throw an unforgettable party with this creamy seafood paella as the headliner. Don’t forget to offer BBQ Side Dishes, Appetizers and Desserts because the main course will not last long!

Paella Variations

Mix and match ingredients: you never have to have the same paella twice!

If you want to load up on vegetables, consider adding in any one of these delicious mix-ins: onions, chickpeas, artichokes, bell peppers, kalamata olives, and frozen peas. If you choose to add in jarred ingredients, just make sure you drain them well. In fact, for a vegetarian dish, simply pack your paella with all those veggies! For a boost of flavor use vegetable broth when you’re boiling the rice.

For another delicious surf and turf paella, this hearty Grilled Summer Quinoa Paella combines chicken, shrimp, and chorizo: it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

You don’t have to add ingredients to boost the flavor. Get a nutty, toasted flavor by perfecting the socarrat – those irresistibly crispy, caramelized grains of rice on the bottom of the pan that will take your paella to the next level. Simply turn the heat up for the last couple of minutes, or until you hear a slight crackle.

No matter how you customize your dish, make sure you serve with a side of lemon slices. This will give you paella extra zest, and ensure you get a burst of flavors with every bite.
