    Step 1

  • Prepare rice according to package directions. Allow to cool completely.

    Step 2

  • Meanwhile, toss steak slices with pepper and salt and reserve. Heat canola oil in a wok or large skillet set over high heat. Cook mushrooms for 5 to 8 minutes, or until brown and slightly crispy. Add steak and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown.

    Step 3

  • Stir in rice. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until well coated and starting to heat through. Stir in soy sauce and sesame oil. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, until rice is heated through, steak is medium-rare and mushrooms are tender.

    Step 4

  • Transfer rice to a platter and sprinkle with green onions before serving.

    Recipe Tips

For a kid-friendly dish, adjust the amount of pepper to suit your child’s palate. If your kids don’t love mushrooms, try cutting them smaller so they don’t even know they’re there!

If you prefer, substitute beef tenderloin for strip loin steak.

Cremini, oyster and shiitake mushrooms are a good medley of mushrooms to use in this fried rice recipe.
