Step 1
Prepare rice according to package directions. Allow to cool completely.
Step 2
Meanwhile, toss steak slices with pepper and salt and reserve. Heat canola oil in a wok or large skillet set over high heat. Cook mushrooms for 5 to 8 minutes, or until brown and slightly crispy. Add steak and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown.
Step 3
Stir in rice. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until well coated and starting to heat through. Stir in soy sauce and sesame oil. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, until rice is heated through, steak is medium-rare and mushrooms are tender.
Step 4
Transfer rice to a platter and sprinkle with green onions before serving.
Recipe Tips
For a kid-friendly dish, adjust the amount of pepper to suit your child’s palate. If your kids don’t love mushrooms, try cutting them smaller so they don’t even know they’re there!
