Jackfruit Burrito Bowl

Jackfruit mimics the texture of pulled pork and is great simmered in barbecue sauce for a delicious burrito bowl topping. Serve over Success® White Rice.

  • 1 bag Success® White Rice
  • 1 can (14 oz) green jackfruit, drained, rinsed and shredded
  • 1 cup smoky barbecue sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 avocado, halved, pitted, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup corn, cooked
  • 1 cup tomatoes, diced
  • 1 tbsp vegan sour cream


  • Enjoy all the delicious flavors of your favorite burrito in this yummy rice bowl including a fun twist of plant-based pulled jackfruit. Using a fluffy Success® White Rice base, this bowl is versatile and perfect for getting creative with ingredients of choice.

    Step 1

  • Prepare rice according to package directions.

    Step 2

  • Meanwhile, in large skillet set over medium heat, combine jackfruit and barbecue sauce; bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes or jackfruit is heated through and sauce is thickened.

    Step 3

  • Divide rice among 4 bowls; divide jackfruit and sauce, black beans, avocado, corn and tomatoes evenly over top. Drizzle with vegan sour cream.

    Recipe Tips

    For a loaded burrito bowl, add finely chopped fresh cilantro, vegan shredded cheese, and pickled jalapeño slices. Serve with lime wedges.

    Young, green or unripe canned jackfruit works best for this recipe. Ripe jackfruit is sweeter, and its texture will not yield a meaty texture.

This fruit is dense and fibrous and is often compared to the texture of pulled pork when cooked, hence it is a great plant-based and tasty ingredient. Jackfruit goes extremely well with bold and spice-filled flavors and seasonings, so try marinating it with some extra chili or cook it with sauces such as barbecue sauce as we’ve done in this burrito bowl recipe!

Cooking Tips: If you’re using fresh jackfruit, steer clear of ripe varieties, as it may have a sweeter and more fruity taste, it doesn’t maintain the shredded texture well when cooked, so it’s better eaten raw. If you’re looking to cook it, make sure to find to look for under ripe fruit, as these offer a great meaty texture when cooked. Jackfruit is also extremely versatile in the way it can be cooked, you can sear it in a pan, sauté it with other veggies or even barbecue it.
