Turkey with a Twist
If you’re looking for a delicious twist on traditional fried rice, why not try making it with turkey and pine nuts? This combination adds a unique flavor and texture to the dish that will have your taste buds begging for more.
Recipe Tips: Using leftover cooked turkey is a great way to use up leftovers from Thanksgiving or any other roast turkey dinner. Simply shred the turkey into bite-sized pieces and set aside. This Turkey Eggroll in a Bowl made with whole grain Success® Brown Rice is a perfect example.
To add some crunch and nuttiness, toss in a handful of pine nuts. These little gems add a delightful texture and bring out the flavors of the other ingredients. Try them in our Fried Rice with Ham and Pine Nuts or for something sweet in our Pine Nut Strawberry Rice Bars.
How to Toast Pine Nuts
Our small trick to enhancing the flavor of recipes is toasting pine nuts. They give salads and pasta a toasty, nutty flavor and crunch. Even though these Italian nuts are fantastic on their own, toasting them takes them to a whole other level. The flavor is improved by toasting, as it is with any nut. Once you give it a try, you’ll find yourself adding it to all of your meals going forward.
On the Stove: Don’t add oil; just place the nuts in a dry skillet. About 3 minutes, or until browned and fragrant, over medium heat. Watch them carefully as they can burn very easily.
In the Oven: 350°F for preheating. On a baking sheet, arrange the nuts in a single layer. Bake for 5 minutes, or until aromatic and brown.
Tips for Making Fried Rice
- Make sure you choose the right grain type.
- Rinse the rice before using. This will remove excess starch and clean the rice.
- Separate the grains by fluffing the rice. As soon as it cooks you should fluff it so it doesn’t harden.
- Add an egg for better flavor.
- Use a wok to cook the rice if you have one.
- Make sure you are using the right type of oil.
- Fry with high temps.
